From Pooh to Pia
Kaho Na Pyaar Hai was supposed to be her debut but she walked out of it and instead starred with Abhishek Bachchan in J.P.Datta’s Refugee in 2000, in which she played Naaz, a Bangladeshi girl who falls in love with Refugee. This won her the Filmfare Best Debut Award. In 2001, she worked with Tusshar Kapoor in Mujhe Kuch Kehna Hai which was one of the successes of the year. Yaadein did not do well. Her fiery Kaurwaki act in the epic Asoka with Shahrukh Khan won her a nomination for the Filmfare Best Actress Award. Her fourth film was the multi-starrer Kabhie Khushi Kabhie Gham in which she played the part of the haughty yet adorable Pooh. The film was her biggest commercial success. The next two years saw her in a few films like Mujhse Dosti Karoge, Khushi, and Main Prem Ki Deewani Hoon which ranged from flops to moderate successes.

Just when you thought Pooh was as far as she could go, she started experimenting by portraying different characters in her films that released in 2004 and it paid off. She stepped into the shoes of a sex worker in Chameli with Rahul Bose, earning a Filmfare Special Performance Award. The other critically acclaimed film was Dev with Amitabh Bachchan, in which she played Aaliya, a victim in the communal riots in Gujarat. She won the Filmfare Critics Award for Best Performance. She also appeared in an item number in Farhan Akhtar’s Don, which was originally done by Helen.

Imtiaz Ali’s romcom Jab We Met with Shahid Kapoor was a runaway hit in 2007. Her portrayal of the spontaneous and fun-loving Geet was applauded. She won the Filmfare Best Actress Award for that role. In 2008, she came out with Tashan with her new boyfriend Saif Ali Khan and her size zero figure, but that failed to live up to the hype. She lent her voice to Laila in the animation flick Roadside Romeo and was part of Golmaal Returns, a sequel to the comedy hit Golmaal.

In 2009, Kareena was seen in a guest appearance in Luck by Chance and an item number in Billu. After her role as a super model in Kambakkht Ishq she became a style icon though the movie was trashed by critics. Main Aur Mrs Khanna also did not score well. Kurbaan with Saif Ali Khan did a decent job while her role as Pia in 3 Idiots made sure she ended the year on a high note.

Gaining Momentum
Kareena’s fans can look forward to see her in Milenge Milenge in 2010. She will be seen with Shahid Kapoor in the movie. The release was delayed when the couple broke up.

Deepika has had modelling appearances in print and television advertising campaigns for Liril soap, Close-Up toothpaste and Limca, receiving many prestigious modelling offers, including brand ambassadorship of the Jewels of India, an annual jewellery exhibition. She hit the international scene when Maybelline made her their new international cover face. At the fifth annual Kingfisher Fashion Awards, for Indian models and designers, she was awarded the title of Model of the Year. She also bagged two trophies at the Idea Zee F Awards in 2006 - Female Model of the year (Commercial Assignments) and Fresh Face of the year. Like many successful models before her Deepika is turning to acting in Bollywood. She started by starring in the music video for "Naam Hai Tera," a song from the pop album Aap Ka Suroor, an independent album by popular Bollywood singer-composer Himesh Reshammiya. Deepika recently made her cinematic debut in a Kannada film, Aishwarya, directed by Indrajit Lankesh. Her co-stars in the movie is top Kannada hero Upendra. The film has already been successful at the box-office, and Deepika has received reviews which praise her for her great screen presence. Katrina Kaif Biography

Katrina Kaif
Nickname

Kat

Height
5' 8½" (1.74 m)

Katrina Kaif Biography
Born in Hong Kong on July 16, 1984 Katrina Kaif is one of eight siblings, all girls, from a mother who is a Caucasian of British Nationality, and a father who was formerly from Kashmir, India, but who has since acquired British citizenship. Her mother is now re-settled in Chennai (formerly known as Madras), the Capital of the state of Tamil Nadu in India.

She spent subsequent years in Hawaii, and then in London, Britain, She started modeling accidentally when she was in Hawaii at the tender age of 14, when she was approached for a jewelry campaign. Thereafter she continued modeling in London.

Continuing to model was the reason she got her break in a Bollywood movie 'Boom' offered by none other than film-maker Kaizad Gustad.

She was flooded with modeling assignments the minute she set her foot on Indian soil, especially with her innocent expressive face, hour-glass figure, and drop-dead gorgeous looks.

Professionally she started off as a model with photographer Atul Kasbekar, and upon being accepted, she received offers from LG, Cola, Fevicol, Lakme, & Veet. It was the Lakme commercial that got her noticed. She retained Matrix as her Manager to accept work on her behalf and at the price she deserved.

Moving to different culture and country was not much of a culture shock for her, as she states that no matter where you come from, the bottom line is that everyone wants to be loved, respected, and cared for.

Despite of her positive attitude, she had been stereotyped as "Indian" by extreme right-wingers in Britain who made it clear that she did not quite fit-in with their "Blonde" Caucasian culture; while on the other hand in India itself she had been ranked as an 'outsider' very much like Sonia Gandhi.

Unlike other artistes from foreign lands, Katrina did not experience any difficulties in getting a visa nor of getting it extended in India.

Although linguistically challenged, Katrina puts on a bold face and states that other Bollywood artistes like Sridevi, who did not know Hindi, did get offers from Bollywood film-makers, and she is no different. She has taken Hindi and dancing lessons to fit in with the Bollywood culture. She likes to display a picture of her learning Kathak dancing where she used to dance 7 hours a day non-stop.

Adorned with soft gorgeous looks, she is not easily intimidated, but admits that she is very emotional, sensitive, and concerned about her privacy, Almost an incurable romantic, she prefers to wear comfortable non-revealing clothes when at home, hates to do her hair, and above all dislikes make-up. Admitting to being lonely in the beginning, but now has several friends who she can hang out with.

Although her first movie 'Boom' was panned by the critics and shunned by the audiences, two other Telugu movies 'Malliswari' and 'Pidugu' did get her noticed. She grossed 70 Lakh Rupees for 'Malliswari' - making her top the list of the highest paid actresses during a South Indian movie debut.

Not done with South Indian movies, she has been signed in a Tamil movie 'Bheema' opposite National Award Winner Vikram.

She has received decent reviews for her part in "Maine Pyar Kyon Kiya", as well as a brief appearance in 'Sarkar'.

Katrina had made Mumbai her base, didn't mind singing and dancing around trees and as a result is now one of the biggest mega-stars, perhaps one of the highest paid female-lead actresses in Bollywood, and a crowd-puller whenever she makes an appearance for a live song and dance number.
